Alia: Bapak, hari ni berapa haribulan?
Bapak: Laa, Alia niiih. Tak nampak ker bapak ngan mak tengah berbual.
Mak: Ya la, tak baik menyampuk macam tu. Apa salahnya tanya aje kat Arissa disebelah tu.
Arissa: Er, buat apa tanya saya sebab saya tak tahu. Saya hilang ingatan!!!
(Mak and Bapak: Arissa, Arissa. Tak improve ker lagi vocabulary....)

Beauty and The Beast
I simply love animated movies especialy those from Disney and Pixar. My favourites include Shrek I and II (but the recent third installment was somewhat of a let down to me personally) and The Incredibles.
But my all-time favourite, and most probably for my Yan and the girls too, are the classic Beauty and The Beast. I can just watch it over and over again. At one point of my life I could even memorise all the songs (masa the movie baru keluar dulu in the early 90s). And one of my favourite scene was when Belle and the Beast were singing in a cold wintry condition and cute little birds were chirping all around them. Just like this one:
Very the menggembirakan. Anyway, closer to home, I have my own little Belle too. Like this picture:
Arissa kat rumah Opah Temoh bertemu ayam-ayam dan mak ayam for the first time. It's not winter and there's no song accompanying her but Bapak thinks this picture is still very romantic.

Preteen years are the easiest. Young kids love you most of the time and want your loving attention all of the time. They need you to help them develop a variety of interests outside the classroom, in the arts, sports, current events, etc. Don't overdo school work at home. That's what teachers are for, and they do it best.
Teen years are the toughest. Teenagers rebel at parental guidance, but they need it, especially in relationships with others their age. Don't overemphasize grades. A B-plus student with well-rounded interests will fare better in college and in the real world than one with all A-pluses whose interests don't go beyond good grades.
Don't forget your kids in their adult years. In the 20s, they need your guidance on career choices. In the 30s, on possible career changes. In their 40s and 50s, on planning for retirement, which sneaks up on them sooner than most expect and they often are unprepared financially and emotionally.
Above all, try to enjoy it all. If you do, chances are they will too.

The Relocation of UM
In my book, for someone to even suggest that Universiti Malaya be relocated (and willing to fork out millions of ringgit to see it move to Sepang) tantamounts to "treason" act. Don't la that way. There are things in life that are best be left alone. Like UM. So I'm somewhat relieve to be reading this Bernama report where both Pak Lah and the DPM had publicly opposed the move. Alhamdulillah! Here's the excerpt of the report....
KEPALA BATAS, June 16 (Bernama) -- Both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the main campus of Universiti Malaya should be retained at its present location in Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur and not make way for a proposed commercial development.
"The (present) location is adequate for the university's operations. If possible, I want the campus to be retained there," Abdullah said, adding that the university could open branch campuses elsewhere if necessary.
It was reported yesterday that real estate company Guocoland (M) Berhad, controlled by millionaire Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, has offered to relocate the university to Sepang in order to develop its present site into a RM10 billion commercial and residential hub.
That plan is reportedly objected to by the university's academic staff association, alumni, lecturers, administrators and undergraduates.
Abdullah, himself a graduate of Universiti Malaya, said that personally he would not want the university to be relocated.
"Universiti Malaya is the first institution of higher learning established in the country and has served the nation well," he said.
Najib said the government would never agree to the proposal to relocate the university if it went against the public interest, adding that the government would consider the views of all quarters and that so far many had voiced opposition to the matter.
The company's proposal to relocate UM had met with objection and aroused the anger of various parties, including former UM vice-chancellor Royal Prof Ungku Abdul Aziz.
Ungku Aziz said the developer had no sense of patriotism as he was prepared to offer a price for the priceless national heritage.
