Seeing the huge crowd, we then made up our mind to go to Kampar, instead. My brother brilliantly thought of having our breakfast at Lee Kuan. Now, this is a Chinese kopitiam located opposite Kampar's Japanese garden.
The coffee shop has been around since we were kids. Our arwah bapak was a regular there (so was my FIL, acording to Yan). Naturally, bapak would bring us there too especially during weekends. So it was really a real kick that morning to be able to have mee kari (for me) and mee soup (my brother). It certainly brought us back to our younger days. And the mee kari was simply ... heavenly!
And as we were finishing our breakfast, my brother hit upon another bright idea -- to have Foong Mun Kee's to die for ais kacang. Now this is another kopitiam that also has been around for many years. And I must tell you that the ais kacang is simply the best in the world. Even today. Enough said.
The ais kacang (only with gula melaka syrup)
P.S: It was really nice to be able to go back 'in time" that day just days before we usher in the new year of 2009. As we move forward, I was reminded that there were amazing things from our past that must be chreished and not be forgotten... like food!
Happy New Year! Have a blessed 1403H and 2009M!
