Having been a journalist for the past 20 years or so, I'm used to see my byline in the pages of newspapers and magazines where I was working or is currently attached. Of course, it was a huge thing for me when I first saw my name in print for the first time.
But as far as I can remember, I've never been quoted in any articles - news or features alike - like many other respected and illustrious journos whom I look up to. But then I'm not that "smart" (either this or I'm still really not significant enough) anyway for my fellow journalists to ask me to say something about any particular issues. Well, no biggie there as even I suspect my own intelligence sometimes.
So it was quite a pleasant surprise when my cousin Meor texted me a couple of weeks ago telling me that my name and this blog has been was quoted in a feature article in a magazine called Forward (December 2008 issue). Wow, now this is big for me. I can never, for the life of me, imagine that anything I write in this blog would be worthy enough to be quoted.
Naturally, I've been searching for the said magazine high and low to see the article for myself. And I finally found it in 7-Eleven near my place just now. Apparently the article (To Each, Their Own by Fariza Uzmat) touches on why and how placing some concern over one's ethnic language can actually make Malaysia bettter country.
Deep, eh? And the writer quoted this blog in one paragraph. Only. That's it. But I'm still mighty pleased.. and I don't know why!!!
Anyway the quoted blog entry can be found here.
