Celebrating life ... my way!

i.
Mrsgoodthings@home went to school this morning. UPSR result out. She was initially .. er. calm. Until she reached the school and met with scores of parents .. mostly mothers. And everybody .. mostly mothers.. were on the brink of nervous breakdown. And naturally mrsgoodthingsa@home became agitated too. Who wouldn't when... mothers mostly... some unknown to her... came up and asked "what if my child didn't get 5As?" before moving on wailing to some others.
For crying out loud...it's not the end of the world! It's only UPSR. Tomorrow, all will be forgotten. Life moves on.
Having said all that, to My Asma, congratulations baby! Am happy for you. Congrats to your bestest friends too - Anis, Fatihah and even Amyrah. Stay cool, girls! And oh! yes, congrats to other anak-anak who achieved good results too. I'm sure your parents and teachers are bursting with pride and happiness. Alhamdulillah!
And, Asma, as I told you the night before, even if you did not get a single A pun, Bapak will be okay. Mak too. Just be a good girl! A good Muslimah Girl! That's more important, really!
And have fun and celebrate life! (and it does not revolve around string of As only)

ii.
By the way, yesterday both of us went to school for a Hari Anugerah Kecemerlangan Sekolah. My Arissa received an anugerah for coming out third in her class. I'm especially happy and proud for when she's younger... for some reasons many pointed out that she's not normal. Granted, Arissa was rather slow to talk. Even her kindergarten teacher once told us to have Arissa checked by a doctor… simply because she still can’t read at the tender age of 5. Some teacher, right?
And "well-meaning" relatives and friends can be cruel too... how do you respond to words of "encouragement" like "dia ni cacat sikit!" when referring to then five year old Arissa. Imagine that? And do not get me started on the things said behind our back (yes words did get around!). For crying out loud...
So, excuse me yaa, this one I gotta celebrate. Big time! Wohoooo!!!!

iii.
I will never ever (never did, anyway) compare my kids with other people's children. You may ask about their performances in school and all that. I will answer it truthfully (depending on my mood... lar jugak). Period. Please, don't bother to compare yours to mine. And if your kids are positively brilliant than mine, don't you think such an exercise is rather pointless.
Afterall, I'm sure that you wholeheartedly believe that your kids are better than my kids, anyway. And I tell you... I am happy for your children. I really do.
But if you still insist on comparing them... just do it at your end. Please keep it to yourself, ya.... because I am far too busy......celebrating life with my kids and wife!

ye la bg mior, never ever compare them with other kids. it will only add unnecessary pressure to them. aku dulu pass mathematic kalo bleh nak buat kenduri but those nerds were upst they didnt get 100%. whats the deal with that la bro?

so i say, just let your kids roll and insyaAllah with their parents' guidance, they'll grow up and plays an important part in our society. i'm positive of that.

congrats to asma and arissa btw.

Salam Mior
First, congratulations to Asma and Arissa.
True what you've said. Kesian budak2 tu sebab at that tender age when growing up is about having fun, they are pitched against each other in examinations.
I saw some kids who cried as if it was the end of the world when they only got 4As and 1Bs! Apa nak jadi ni?
I told my niece, never mind if she gets double-digit in class as long as she enjoys going to school.
She's sitting for the UPSR next year.
We've not set any targets for her but since Std One, she had asked for RM100 for each As she gets in the year-end exams.
So far, she has collected a tidy sum from the nenek and me.

Kerp Bro,
Betul tu... zaman dulu when I scraped through SRP (dulu satu Malaysia takdak org dapat straight A pun) memang buat kenduri. Sekarang nih, hilang satu A, major catastrophe. I'm so glad I'm not a child now.

Fauziah,
How true.. kesian kat bebudak zaman sekarang. Nasib baik zaman kita no such pressure.. But really some parents zaman ni, simply beyond any reasoning. Yesterday at school, my wife kata a few mommy were behaving as if they were waiting outside operating theatre. Kalut

Salam pak mior:

Tahniah buat anakanda Asmah dan Arissa. Both of you made Cik Mior and Cik Yan proud. That is one thing nobody can take it away from you two.
Alhamdulillah.

Yes, we have seen for the past 10 years or so, the peer pressure plus the parental pressure driving our kids to the wall. I mean, whats the big deal about UPSR. Life is still a long way for them kids. And haven't we seen many who flopped in school but became very successful in their own right.

We do not want our kids to be like those in Japan, right! Kids commiting suicide for not performing at school exams!

For this reason, Hafiz was never sent to any tuition during his primary or lower secondary. I always tell him, just do your best. The most important thing is I wanna him to learn something, to be an independent person and insyaALLAH a good Muslim.

Once again, tahniah Asmah dan Arissa.

Nisa,
Girls' outing with them? You sure? Kang tak terlarat nak layan kang....

Zaitgha,
Couldn't agree more than you.

Salam Tok:
The worst part is the parental peer pressure - Parents competing with each other to see whose kids are more brilliant. Even more so here in KL area like Subang Jaya ni. As if I've got nothing better things to do than comparing my kids than theirs. To these parents, oooh just get a life.
And just like Hafiz, my daughters didn't go to any tuition classes. Cuma sekali dulu after they moved from a private Islamic school to the usual Sek Kebangsaan - we sent them to a 3 months remedial tuition classes - banyak sangat tertinggal to catch up with the rest of their classmates. (That's another story la kan).
